School Physical Therapy Jobs
As the number of school-aged children affected by physical disabilities continues to rise in this country, the demand for school physical therapy jobs does as well. All children, regardless of social, physical, or economic class deserve equal and ample opportunity to succeed in a learning environment. Having a physical therapist available on campus allows children with any number of conditions to get the treatment they need, whether or not they are receiving any treatment outside of school.
School physical therapists help treat children with various conditions to improve mobility and function, reduce pain, and otherwise improve the well-being of those who are suffering from temporary or permanent disability.
The outlook for school physical therapy jobs is impressive, as growth is anticipated to be 27% over the next seven years. Since there are technological advances helping doctors and other medical professionals save the lives of premature babies and other newborns suffering from birth defects, there is a considerable rise in the number of school-aged children who need physical therapy treatments while attending school.
The conditions physical therapists work under are moderately stressful, depending on the condition being treated, the severity of the condition, and the age of the child. Some conditions requiring physical therapy also cause developmental delays and challenges, therefore making the position a challenging one at times. Hours will model those of a traditional school setting: Monday through Friday, 40-hour work weeks, during the school year. The median annual salary lies at $66,200 per year, well worth the satisfaction of being able to help children in need.
Each state has their own requirements and regulations for the education and licensure of physical therapists. Typically, eligible candidates have graduated from an accredited physical therapy program and passed the state exam. Depending on location, there may be other specific requirements to be met before becoming eligible for employment in the field.
