School-Based Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)

Position Overview: We are looking for a skilled Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant to work collaboratively with our Occupational Therapist and educational team to support students with a range of sensory, motor, and developmental challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and possess the ability to implement therapeutic interventions to promote students' independence and participation in daily activities within the school environment.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Occupational Therapist in conducting assessments to evaluate students' sensory processing, fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, and activities of daily living.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans and therapeutic activities designed to address students' specific occupational therapy goals, under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Provide direct therapeutic interventions to students both individually and in group settings, using evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other members of the educational team to integrate therapy goals into the student's educational program and daily routines.
  • Support students in developing skills necessary for school success, including handwriting, self-care tasks, organization, and social skills.
  • Assist in the modification of classroom environments and activities to accommodate students' sensory and motor needs and promote access to the curriculum.
  • Monitor students' progress and document outcomes of therapy interventions, communicating regularly with the Occupational Therapist and educational team.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff and parents on strategies and techniques to support students' occupational development and independence within the school setting.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Valid state license or registration to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with sensory processing disorders, motor coordination difficulties, and developmental delays.
  • Knowledge of pediatric occupational therapy principles, assessment tools, and intervention strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, educators, and other professionals.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and advocating for the unique needs of students with disabilities in the school setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic educational environment.
