High School Science Teacher
Location: Central Columbus
Contract Type: W2 Hourly
Contract Term: ASAP - June 2022 with potential renewal in 2023/2024
Pay Range: $28-$34 per hour depending on applicant education, experience, certification, and school budget.
Joining our team as a Science Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching a variety of science classes, including Physical Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Health to high school students. You will also be responsible for supervising students, preparing lesson plans, assessing student progress, maintaining classroom discipline, and leading an advisory class to ensure students are engaged and participating in their classes.
High School Caseload - Science - Grades 9-12
Subjects/Classes: Physical Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry and Health
Classroom Size: Up to 12 students per block with one classroom paraprofessional to provide support in classroom management, teacher assistance, etc.
Additional Responsibilities: In addition to classroom instruction, our teachers are assigned an advisory class of up to 15 students to ensure students are actively engaged in our program.
Preferred Licensure: Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate (6-12) with Integrated Science Endorsement
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that are aligned with state and national science standards.
- Assess and evaluate student learning and progress, and provide regular feedback to students and parents.
- Plan and prepare classroom materials and resources, such as textbooks, audio-visual aids, laboratory equipment, and supplies.
- Manage and maintain a safe and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and parents to support student learning and achievement.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to students as needed.
- Incorporate technology and other innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school-related events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education or a related field.
- Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate (6-12) with Integrated Science Endorsement.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of science concepts and principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and maintain discipline.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Familiarity with technology and other innovative teaching methods.
- Experience teaching diverse student populations.
