Special Education Teacher
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Dates: ASAP - June 9, 2025
Employment Type: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Compensation: $28-$35 per hour
Caseload: Self-Contained Classroom (Flexible Ages)
Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join Birmingham City Schools, supporting students in a self-contained classroom environment. This is a full-time, onsite position that offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student learning and growth. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Individualized Support: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet each student's unique learning and behavioral needs.
- Instruction: Deliver instruction and interventions in a self-contained setting, adapting teaching methods to support diverse learning styles.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a team of educators, support staff, and families to promote a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and report student progress to ensure continuous development and make adjustments as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Certification: Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education.
- Federal & State Compliance: Must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or be willing to obtain necessary credentials.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $28-$35 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
