Job Description:
We are seeking a full-time Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support K-12 students across multiple school sites in Brevard, NC. This itinerant position involves providing specialized instruction and resources to students with visual impairments, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential skills. The TVI will work with students individually and in small groups, collaborating with school staff to adapt materials and provide accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, including braille, assistive technology, and adaptive skills.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility.
- Offer orientation and mobility support, if certified, to assist students in navigating school environments.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed to promote independence and academic success.
- Travel between school sites to provide services across the K-12 caseload.
Qualifications:
- Valid North Carolina certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (required).
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in a K-12 setting (preferred).
- Proficiency in braille, assistive technology, and adaptive techniques.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
Pay Rate: $35-$45 per hour, depending on experience.
