School Speech-Language Pathologist is Needed in Akron, OH

  • Up to 4 school sites depending on leaves
  • Pay is negotiated on an hourly basis and is dependent upon experience and location.

Job Overview: A School Speech-Language Pathologist works in an educational setting, typically in public or private schools, to support students who have speech, language, and communication disorders. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create and implement individualized treatment plans to help students improve their communication skills and succeed academically.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify speech and language disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language issues.

  2. Diagnosis: Determine the nature and severity of communication disorders and formulate a diagnosis.

  3. Individualized Treatment Plans: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and treatment goals for students with communication disorders.

  4. Therapy and Intervention: Provide speech and language therapy to students individually or in small groups, using evidence-based techniques and materials.

  5. Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of students and adjust therapy plans as needed.

  6. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to ensure students' speech and language needs are integrated into their overall education.

  7. Consultation: Provide guidance and support to teachers and school staff on strategies for improving communication skills in the classroom.

  8. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of assessments, therapy sessions, progress reports, and other relevant documentation.

  9. Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of students with communication disorders and ensure they receive appropriate services and accommodations.

  10. Continuing Education: Stay current with best practices and research in the field of speech-language pathology through professional development and training.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • State licensure and certification as a speech-language pathologist.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of various assessment and treatment techniques.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and the special education process.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students with communication disorders.
