School Nurse Jobs - School LPN & RN

For many students, school nurses and licensed practical nurses serve as a main source of medical care for children. That makes it imperative for schools to have access to school nurses who have the right mix of skill, compassion and a dedication to children. We know that you love what you do and seeing to your students' health is your top priority. That's why ProCare Therapy wants to help you find the right school nurse job. Every day, we connect school nurses to exciting opportunities throughout the country.

School LPN & RN Responsibilities

School nurses (RNs) and school licensed practical nurses (LPNs) have similar responsibilities to those of nurses working in hospitals or outpatient facilities, but they operate inside a school instead. As a result, school RNs and LPNs work entirely with children. Their main responsibilities are performing health screens, developing a plan for student care, overseeing immunizations or other infection control methods, and acting as a liaison between school staff and parents. Ultimately, the goal of a school RN and LPN is to create a healthy learning environment for students.

School LPN & RN Requirements

The National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) requires that all school nurses have at least a bachelor's degree in Nursing. Once they have their degree, they can then take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. While most schools prefer their school nurses to have a four-year degree, some schools will hire LPNs. Like most positions in the school environment, specific licensing and certification requirements vary state to state. Returning to school to receive a Master of Science in Nursing is another way to make your resume more competitive when you are applying for school nurse jobs.
