About the Role
We’re seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in Sterling Heights, Michigan. In this full-time role, you’ll work in a resource classroom setting, providing tailored instruction and support to students with mild to moderate disabilities, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and speech/language impairments. Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Instruction: Adapt your teaching methods to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities.
- Develop and Manage IEPs: Work closely with families, paraprofessionals, and school staff to create, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collaborate with School Team: Partner with general education teachers and other staff to ensure that students have the accommodations and resources they need to succeed.
- Monitor Student Progress: Assess and track student performance, making adjustments to instructional methods to promote continuous progress and success.
- Inclusive Classroom Environment: Foster a classroom culture where all students feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to achieve their goals.
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher License required (Type 1, 2, or 3, as per Michigan Department of Education guidelines).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience: Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly those with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and/or speech impairments, is preferred.
- Skills: Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
- State-Specific Requirements:
- Valid Michigan Special Education Certification (Type 1, 2, or 3).
- Completion of background checks and clearance as required by Michigan law.
- Experience with developing and managing IEPs and knowledge of state and federal education regulations.
