About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to join our team in Westland, Michigan. In this full-time role, you will be working in a resource classroom, supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities such as ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and speech/language impairments. Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Instruction: Deliver tailored instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities.
- IEP Development and Monitoring: Collaborate with families, paraprofessionals, and school staff to create, implement, and track Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collaborative Approach: Work alongside general education teachers and support staff to ensure students receive the accommodations and resources necessary for success.
- Monitor Student Progress: Regularly assess and track student performance, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to promote academic growth.
- Inclusive Classroom Culture: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to feel supported, engaged, and motivated to succeed.
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher License required (Type 1, 2, or 3 as per Michigan Department of Education guidelines).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience: Experience working with students with disabilities, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and speech impairments, is preferred.
- Skills: Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
- State-Specific Requirements:
- Valid Michigan Special Education Certification (Type 1, 2, or 3).
- Completion of background checks and clearance as required by Michigan law.
- Experience in developing and managing IEPs and understanding of state and federal education regulations.
