Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter Teacher
Location: Palm Beach, Florida
Job Description: We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Sign Language Interpreter Teacher to join our school in Palm Beach, Florida. As a Sign Language Interpreter Teacher, you will work closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing interpretation services and facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and other school personnel. The ideal candidate will have fluent American Sign Language (ASL) skills, relevant interpreting experience, and a passion for supporting the educational needs of students with hearing impairments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during classroom instruction, school activities, and events
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and other school staff members
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure the inclusion and accessibility of educational materials and activities for students
- Provide support in classroom management and instructional strategies to foster an inclusive learning environment
- Advocate for the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments
- Assist in the coordination and scheduling of interpreting services for school events and meetings
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interpreting services provided
- Stay updated on relevant trends, techniques, and advancements in sign language interpreting and deaf education through professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (NIC, RID, or state equivalent) highly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Education, or a related field preferred
- Proven experience in sign language interpreting, preferably in an educational setting
- Familiarity with educational systems and accommodations for students with hearing impairments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively facilitate communication between individuals with different communication needs
- Understanding of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of students with hearing impairments
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other professionals
