Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) – Contract Position
Location: Milbank, SD
Position Type: Part-Time (20 Hours/Week) with Potential for Full-Time

We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our team and support a deaf student in a conventional classroom setting.
Job Description: We are looking for a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to work 20 hours per week with a student who is deaf and currently learning sign language. The student is integrated into a traditional classroom, and your role will be pivotal in facilitating communication and enhancing the student’s educational experience. This is an onsite position, as virtual support has been trialed and was not effective for this student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-class sign language interpretation for a deaf student, ensuring they can fully participate in all classroom activities.
- Support the student in developing their sign language skills while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure the student’s educational needs are met.
- Monitor and document the student’s progress, providing feedback to the educational team.
- Assist in creating and adapting learning materials to accommodate the student’s needs.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI).
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students in a classroom setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt to the student’s evolving needs and provide personalized support.
