Job Description
An excellent opportunity is available for Licensed Practical Nurses who are passionate about working in the school setting. This contract position involves providing one-on-one care for a 6th-grade student in Southport, IN, each Wednesday from July 29th through May 27th. You will play an essential role in supporting a bright, cheery student who requires dedicated assistance due to medical and physical needs.
Key Qualifications:
- Active LPN or LVN license in Indiana
- Experience in school-based nursing, pediatrics, or skilled nursing preferred
- Comfortable and competent in providing toileting/changing support as needed
- Willing and able to transfer a student when necessary
- Confident in airway management, including trach care, suctioning, and changing a trach tube
- Familiarity with g-tube feeding or a willingness to learn
- Trach certification required (a brief online course is available for those needing certification)
- Confident in providing CPR and ambu bag support in emergency situations
- Patient, supportive, and adaptable; able to interact positively even with limited student communication
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver compassionate, attentive care to one 6th-grade student throughout the school day each Wednesday
- Manage tracheostomy and g-tube needs according to the students medical plan
- Provide assistance with toileting and personal hygiene
- Monitor the student's well-being and respond quickly to any signs of distress
- Communicate effectively with school staff and healthcare team
- Participate in online training for trach certification if not already certified
