Job Description
Make a difference as a dedicated 1:1 Registered Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year, working closely with a middle school student near Scarborough and Portland, ME. This contract opportunity runs from August 31, 2026, through June 11, 2027, providing consistent weekly hours every Tuesday and Friday during the full school daytotaling 15 hours per weekwith additional opportunities for sub or per diem shifts.
In this rewarding role, youll provide individualized care for a student with CHARGE syndrome who uses a wheelchair and relies on complete assistance for activities of daily living. Proficiency in managing feeding tubes (continuous running), performing blood sugar checks, responding to hypoglycemia (including apple juice boluses via g-tube), and coordinating 2-person lifts for toileting is essential. The student communicates non-verbally and uses a communication board for interaction.
Qualifications:
- Active RN license
- Relevant experience in 1:1 settings or school nursing
- Proficiency in total careincluding feeding tube management, blood sugar monitoring, and transfer assistance
- Compassion, patience, and strong organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver hands-on nursing care and monitor complex medical needs
- Support all activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, toileting, mobility)
- Communicate effectively with staff and family regarding care
- Accurately document and respond to health events or emergencies
- Encourage student engagement using communication aids
