Make a meaningful impact as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student in a behavioral classroom setting. This part-time contract opportunity focuses on Fridays throughout the academic year, collaborating with another language facilitator who provides coverage during the rest of the week. You'll be joining a dynamic school environment dedicated to student growth and inclusivity.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienced in educational settings
- Previous experience working with students who use cochlear implants, hearing aids, or ALD devices is highly preferred
- Skilled in interpreting for students in behavioral or special education environments
- Relevant certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter or Language Facilitator
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team and follow established instructional plans
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person ASL interpretation during instructional periods for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom (during a 6.5-hour shift each Friday)
- Adapt interpreting style to student needs, considering the use of assistive listening devices
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold student privacy at all times
- Step in as a substitute Language Facilitator as needed when the primary M-Th interpreter is absent
- Support the students educational and social success by ensuring access to classroom instruction and interactions
- Communicate with classroom staff and team members to coordinate services
