Step into an impactful role supporting students in a vibrant Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program at a welcoming middle school. This full-time contract opportunity is based near Hampshire, IL, and offers a rewarding chance to use your sign language expertise in an educational setting. Youll work closely with students, teachers, and staff to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment for DHH learners.
Qualifications & Experience:
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher required
- Eligibility for or possession of a Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting in schools
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid grasp of interpreting techniques
- Prior experience in a school setting or with DHH programs is highly valued
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Compassion and dedication to supporting student independence and success
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, accurate sign language interpretation for DHH students during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to tailor interpretation services and promote accessible communication
- Facilitate social integration by interpreting in both academic and extracurricular environments
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all aspects of interpreting
- Communicate progress or concerns with appropriate school personnel and engage in ongoing professional development
