Job Description

Qualifications
Bachelors or Associate degree in Educational Interpreting, Sign Language Interpreting, or a related field
Active EIPA score of 3.5 or higher OR current national RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification
Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and voice-to-sign/sign-to-voice transliteration/interpretation
Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or virtual interpreting preferred)
Familiarity with IEP accommodations and support systems for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students
Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
Comfortable using remote teletherapy/video conferencing platforms and technology

Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Intervention
Provide high-quality, real-time virtual sign language interpreting services for K-12 students during academic instruction
Facilitate communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their hearing peers, teachers, and school staff
Ensure accurate and faithful transmission of the nuances, intent, and tone of the spoken and signed language
Review educational materials ahead of sessions to prepare appropriate vocabulary and specialized signs

Collaboration & Support
Work closely with general education teachers, DHH teachers, parents, and school staff to support student access
Provide feedback regarding structural environment modifications or visibility needs for the virtual setting
Participate in virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions as part of the student's support network

Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate logs of interpreting hours, student schedules, and service provisions
Adhere strictly to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC) regarding confidentiality and ethics
Ensure all virtual services meet Georgia state, district, and federal special education guidelines

Technology & Teletherapy Tools
Utilize secure virtual platforms and high-definition digital video tools to deliver clear, visible interpreting sessions
Adapt visual methods to maintain engagement and optimal visibility in an online environment
Troubleshoot basic technical or connectivity issues to minimize instructional downtime

Advocacy & Education
Support students in understanding their communication accommodations and developing self-advocacy skills
Serve as a resource to school teams on best practices for working with a virtual interpreter
