Job Description

Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive elementary environment serving students in grades K-4. This full-time contract position provides an opportunity to guide a resource-model caseload of 8-12 students, combining both direct instruction in small groups (pull-out) and collaborative support within the general education classroom (push-in). Youll foster academic growth and social-emotional skills, working closely with colleagues and families to create a positive and inclusive learning experience.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • Valid Professional Educators License (PEL) or out-of-state equivalent (If licensed outside Illinois, consult the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System for requirements).
  • Experience teaching in a special education resource model at the elementary level.
  • Strong knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and differentiation techniques.
  • Preferred: Orton Gillingham training/certification (SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, or similar structured literacy approaches).
  • Ability to deliver both academic and social/emotional support for diverse learners.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and committed to inclusive education practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering targeted academic instruction addressing IEP goals.
  • Providing both pull-out and push-in support for students in K-4th grade.
  • Coordinating with general education teachers and support staff to implement differentiated strategies.
  • Monitoring student progress, maintaining documentation, and communicating with families.
  • Creating a positive, supportive, and structured classroom environment.

This is a full-time, onsite role: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, following the academic calendar from late August to early June. Your work will allow you to closely support students growth while gaining valuable experience in a collaborative school community.
