Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract role as a Special Education Teacher for the 26/27 school year, guiding an engaging classroom of 4th6th graders in a supportive environment. Youll lead a cross-categorical classroom of 14 students, each bringing unique strengths and learning needs, including intellectual disabilities (ID), other health impairments (OHI), autism (AUT), specific learning disabilities (SLD), and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). This self-contained setting comes with an excellent staff-to-student ratio, including two dedicated paraprofessionals and an individual aide to assist instruction and student support.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teaching Certification recognized in Illinois
- Experience working with cross-categorical populations preferred
- Familiarity with developing and implementing IEPs
- Strong classroom management and differentiation skills
- Collaborative approach to working with aides, therapists, and families
- Compassionate communicator, adept at building rapport with students and staff
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction suited to diverse learning styles and needs
- Develop, update, and monitor IEP goals
- Foster an inclusive and structured learning environment
- Collaborate daily with paraprofessionals and support staff
- Monitor and document student progress for families and interdisciplinary teams
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and parent conferences as required
