Job Description

Empower visually impaired students and help shape inclusive learning across multiple sites in the New Orleans area! This contracted position involves serving as an itinerant educator, traveling between locations to directly support K-12 students with visual impairments and collaborate with staff to ensure their educational needs are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct services to students with visual impairments, including Braille instruction and assistive technology training
  • Facilitate the delivery of special materials and textbooks tailored to individual student needs
  • Conduct in-service training sessions for teachers and staff on effective support strategies
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers to adapt reading materials
  • Maintain open communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and the Special Education Director to facilitate student progress
  • Travel daily to multiple assigned sites in the district
  • Complete reporting, documentation, and perform other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree plus current Louisiana Department of Education certification in teaching students with visual impairments
  • At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
  • Expertise in assistive technology tools and Braille instruction
  • Skilled at designing and providing orientation and mobility training (preferred)
  • Stellar communication, organizational, and analytical abilities
  • Independent, adaptable, and committed to fostering student achievement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and interact productively across diverse educational settings
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel daily; ability to meet credentialing, drug screening, and fingerprinting requirements
