Job Description
Step into a dynamic educational setting as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a contract role supporting K-12 students across a county near Jacksonville, NC. This itinerant position allows you to make a meaningful impact across multiple schools, ensuring students with visual impairments receive the specialized instruction and guidance they need to succeed.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or equivalent
- Experience working with K-12 students in diverse educational settings
- Knowledge of adaptive technology and instructional resources for visually impaired learners
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with classroom teachers, families, and related service staff
- Ability to travel regionally within the county for regular school visits
- Dedication to fostering inclusive and accessible educational environments
- Comfortable maintaining a manageable, regionally split caseload
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultation to students with visual impairments across multiple schools (itinerant model)
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Collaborate with general educators, support staff, and families to deliver effective interventions and accommodations
- Conduct functional vision assessments and recommend appropriate classroom modifications and assistive technology
- Advocate for accessibility and participate in team meetings to support student progress
- Monitor student development and adjust strategies as needed
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal guidelines
- This position does not involve virtual instruction (NO TO VOCO)
