Job Description

Step into a dynamic educational setting as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) with COMS experience in a role designed to make a lasting impact on students lives. In this contract opportunity, youll collaborate with dedicated educators and support teams to provide essential educational and orientation services to students with visual impairments. This is a full-time position, offering 37.5 hours per week, in a supportive school environment near Westminster, CO.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement for Visual Impairment
  • TVI and COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) credentials required
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired across various age groups
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with parents, staff, and administrators
  • Ability to design and adapt individualized instructional plans and mobility programs

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in school, community, and home settings
  • Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments; develop IEP goals and objectives
  • Teach compensatory and adaptive skills, including braille, assistive technology, and daily living activities
  • Provide orientation and mobility training to promote independent travel skills
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the integration of accessible materials, accommodations, and resources
  • Serve as resource and advocate for students, families, and school staff regarding visual impairment
