Key Qualifications:
- Proven fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a paraprofessional, sign language interpreter, or teacher specializing in ASL is highly preferred
- Ability to build positive relationships with elementary-aged students and effectively support their educational needs
- Excellent communication skills, both signed and written
- Strong organizational and teamwork abilities in a school setting
Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom support to elementary students who utilize ASL as their primary mode of communication
- Collaborate with teachers and other paraprofessionals to implement individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Facilitate communication between students, peers, and staff to encourage active participation in all classroom activities
- Assist in developing and adapting educational materials to ensure accessibility
- Offer direct academic, behavioral, and emotional support to students as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school policies and best practices
