Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students in a dynamic middle school environment as a Sign Language Interpreter within a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program. This full-time role focuses on fostering understanding and communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, making a meaningful difference every day in Hampshire, IL.

Preferred candidates bring expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, a passion for education, and a commitment to creating inclusive learning experiences. As the school-based interpreter, you will engage closely with staff and students, providing vital support that ensures equal access to curriculum and activities throughout the academic year.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting
• EIPA score of 3.0 or higher
• Eligibility for or possession of an active Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting in schools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to foster supportive, respectful relationships with students and educational staff

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, group activities, and school events for DHH students
• Collaborate with teachers and specialized staff to ensure seamless communication access
• Adapt interpreting strategies to suit varied learning situations and environments
• Promote self-advocacy and independence among DHH students
• Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
