Step into a meaningful contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter in vibrant communities throughout the Beaufort area. Support students in educational settings and enhance communication accessibility for the 2026-2027 school year, with placements available at multiple schools including high schools, a middle school, and a K-8 leadership academy. This full-time role spans from August 3, 2026, through May 28, 2027, with a consistent 37.5-hour work week.
Your role will focus on providing clear and accurate interpretation services for deaf or hard-of-hearing students, ensuring inclusive access to classroom learning and school activities. Collaborate with educators and other professionals to facilitate student participation and comprehension across varied educational levels and subjects.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- 3.5 or higher EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score required
- Strong skill set in American Sign Language, with prior experience in K-12 educational environments preferred
- Ability to interpret in a variety of classroom and school settings, including high school, middle school, and K-8
- Flexibility to serve at one of several locations in Bluffton or Beaufort, depending on placement needs
- Effective communication skills with both students and school staff
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and school events using sign language
- Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for students requiring interpretation services
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special educators, and school staff
- Maintain confidentiality while adhering to ethical standards for educational interpreters
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to student progress planning
